Lighting manufacturers often need several different plastic components for one product. The structural housing, optical cover, diffuser and driver enclosure may use different materials and have different appearance requirements.

PC, PMMA, ABS and PC/ABS Lighting Components
Different LED components call for different material properties. A transparent cover should not be quoted on the same assumptions as an opaque rear housing. The material selection needs to reflect the intended function and operating conditions.

For visible components, appearance standards should be agreed before tooling. Colour, gloss, texture, gate location and acceptable surface marks can affect the mold design and sample approval process.

For projects involving optical components, the customer should provide the applicable appearance and optical acceptance criteria. These need to be considered during the tooling and sampling stages rather than added after the mold is completed.
